Press Statement on the Incident that took place on July 8th, 2016 (South Sudan’s 5th Anniversary Eve)
The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan, Berlin regrets the incidents that occurred in the capital city of South Sudan, Juba from July 7, 2016. The situation in Juba is now under control by the transitional government of National Unity. The Government has released the following official statement about the incident on July 8, 2016:
The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan regrets the incident that happened on July 8, 2016, where many army personnel lost their lives in and around J1 (The presidential Palace). This is an isolated occurrence engineered by the enemies of peace. The interrupted meeting was meant to address some of the misunderstandings and close the loopholes in the peace agreement. The two leaders are both committed to restore calm and are determine to implement the peace agreement.
The two armies in one country proposed by the Peace Agreement have now proofed to be not workable and is regretted by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.
The government is committed to making the Transitional Government of National Unity work and will continue to work for durable peace in our country so that the suffering of the people of the Republic of South Sudan may end.
